I am currently a Visiting Lecturer in the Writing Program at Wellesley College. I completed my Ph.D. in English at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in May 2011, and I hold a M.A. with distinction in Critical Theory from the University of Sussex (UK) and a B.A. magna cum laude in English from Dickinson College.
My research and teaching interests include late nineteenth- and twentieth-century American literature and culture, science and technology studies, race and gender studies, literary theory and history, film criticism and analysis, and professional and analytical writing. My recent work on the connections among mathematics, literary theory, and modern American literature can be found in the Summer 2012 issue of Genre: Forms of Discourse and Culture and the Fall 2008 issue of New Literary History. I have held research fellowships from the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities, the UIUC College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Department of English, and was a selected participant in the Summer Research Program at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary.
Since 2004, I have been teaching a variety of courses on American literature, writing, and film. While at Illinois, I was named to the "List of Teachers Ranked Excellent by Their Students" in 13 of the 14 courses I designed and taught, including every literature and writing course. In Wellesley's interdisciplinary writing program, I have developed original courses on such topics as American women writers, science fiction and fantasy, and science plays.
