Representations of Riemannian Geometry

10-13 August, 2017

St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia, PA

A celebration of the 65th birthday of Wolfgang Ziller

About the conference

This conference is intended for a broad audience with interests in Riemannian Geometry, with a particular focus on the participation of early-career mathematicians. The conference will begin on Thursday, 10 August, 2017, and finish at lunchtime on Sunday, 13 August, 2017.

The conference will take place on the first floor of Mandeville Hall, located here on the campus map. Here can be found some local information, including a schedule for the shuttle between the Hilton and Mandeville Hall. The parking lots adjacent to Mandeville Hall are accessible from the entrance on N 54th St and require a dashboard permit, which will also be available at registration.

On the first day, there will be survey talks on closed geodesics, Einstein manifolds and non-negatively curved Riemannian manifolds, delivered by some of the leading researchers in these fields. In addition to their general interest, these surveys are intended as an introduction to these topics for young mathematicians and those seeking to embark on a new research direction.

The remaining two and a half days will consist of eight plenary lectures, representing some of the important recent advances in the field, as well as three shorter talks by graduate students or new Ph.D.'s on Saturday morning.

The conference banquet is scheduled to take place at 6:30p.m. on Friday, 11 August, in the River Room of the Manayunk Brewery.

The conference poster is available in pdf (high quality) and png (lower quality) formats.

We have secured an NSF grant and hope to be able to cover most local expenses and some travel expenses of registered participants. If you would like to be considered for such support, please indicate this on the registration form. Moreover, St. Joseph's University, Oregon State University and W.W.U. Münster have generously agreed to assist with some of the costs involved in organizing this conference.

A celebration

This conference is being organized to celebrate the 65th birthday of Wolfgang Ziller, as well as his many contributions to the field of Riemannian Geometry.

In addition to the importance of his research, Wolfgang's influence on Riemannian Geometry can be recognized in his strong tradition of encouraging and supporting young mathematicians, in particular in his supervision of more than 20 Ph.D. theses. We hope that the strong emphasis on the participation of junior researchers in this conference goes some way to honoring this tradition.
